Description
Here it is - the variant cover for my graphic novel Von Herling, Vampire Hunter. This cover will be used for the digital editions sold on DriveThru Comics and (eventually) Comixology.
I wanted something different for this cover. The original black & white cover I did for the trade paperback (ISBN 9780989069618) was meant to evoke the feel of Universal Horror movies. Here, I wanted to project the lurid Rococo color scheme of the Hammer Horror films. When I painted in Von Herling with acrylic colors, they looked strange but I went ahead anyway as he would be against a black background. In the end it works. Why? Anyone familiar with color theory will know that black and white are not truly colors - white is all colors and all light while black is the absences of all color and/or all light. Here, the cool greens and the orange pops out against the blackness.
